the night before
our summer family and friends
left to head south
to start the school year
under the maples
new england goodness
home-grown tomatoes with basil
(the sweetest of the sea, if you ask me!)
me * tay * mum
all enjoyed on
the latest addition to our yard
which has become
the centerpiece of summertime livin’
on the cape
served with a scoop of vanilla
a sparkler send-off
to bid goodbye
until next year…
we miss you emily, abby, theresa and noah!
made her way to cape cod
in the early hours of sunday
and blew her way throughout the day
it was eerie
never have i been through such a storm
with NO rain
not. a. drop.
the skies were gloriously blue at times
but the wind was ripping
by late afternoon we were all a bit stir-crazy
so we brought the dogs out to survey the damage
nellie gets a sand-blasting!
power lines and tree limbs
no structural damage to our home
or those around us
not to let our fresh food go to waste-
pizza on the grill
at the end of a tumultuous day
still no power at my parents house
and could be that way for days to come
i’m feeling lucky to be up in VT
to can 60 lbs of organic tomatos!
this week was a whirlwind
chock-full of last-chance
i managed to sneak away
to visit with
on the east coast from the west coast
we spent the day
at her grama’s horse farm
walking the trails
catching up on all-girl-gossip
(here, with her uber-hot-mamma- jess)
hand-carved mushroom stumps
and picturesque trails and jumps
left me craving
to get back in the saddle.
oh, and a dip in the pool afterwards?
roomies with the first, of the next generation
jess, how i miss you, and our late-night-chats, so…
move back home, soon?
latest thrifting find:
mint condition hobnail-milk glass
of. my. dreams.
i’d love to start a collection
of these pretties
and what a piece to start with!
i woke early
ignored the little voices
of fear, exhaustion and to-do’s
to roll out my mat
at my first bikram class
in 6 years
it was hot
i got dizzy
and even sat down
once or twice
but i stayed in the room
and pushed my way through all 26 poses
and it felt
i left recharged
the way home-
cool late summer cape breezes
with a little old-school

made the most of an overcast day
to get down on paper
all the plans we’ve been dreaming and scheming for the summer
we’ve only got a few short weeks left
before it’s back to the bronx…
